How to Measure Your Dog for the Perfect Jacket Size

Choosing the right jacket size for your dog is essential to ensure their comfort and mobility, especially as we head into the colder and rainy months. If you've ever wondered which measurements are necessary to find the perfect fit, don't worry—I’ve got you covered!

Here’s a step-by-step guide on what to measure and how to make sure your furry friend’s jacket fits just right:

1. Back Length Measurement

This is the most important measurement when finding a dog jacket.

• How to measure: Start at the base of the neck (right where the collar usually sits) and measure straight down the back to the base of the tail. Be sure your dog is standing straight to get the most accurate measurement.
• Why it matters: This measurement ensures the jacket covers your dog’s back without being too long or too short, giving them full protection against the elements.

2. Neck Girth

Just like us, dogs need room to move comfortably around the neck area.

• How to measure: Wrap the tape measure around the base of your dog’s neck where their collar usually rests. Make sure to leave enough room for comfort—a good rule is to leave space for two fingers between the tape and their neck.
• Why it matters: The neck girth helps to make sure the jacket fits snugly but comfortably, so it won’t be too tight or loose around their neck. That's why I offer jackets with extra press buttons to get the most comfortable fit for your dog. 

3. Chest Girth (or Chest Width)

The widest part of your dog is their chest, and getting this measurement right is crucial for a comfortable fit.

• How to measure: Measure around the broadest part of their chest, which is usually just behind their front legs. Again, leave some space for movement—two fingers should fit between the tape and your dog's body.
